One day, she mentioned she began to have strange dreams at night but couldn't remember them. She, as well as her boyfriend began to experience strange things in their studio apartment, like noises, something moving, seeing shadows moving about, and hearing footsteps walking around. Once in a while, she'd even hear a male voice calling her name and gaining more of a feeling that someone unseen was hanging around inside their place that was a man in a white t-shirt with dark hair. Her nightly dreams continued, also awakening from her sleep to find herself in the opposite sleeping direction, where her head was at the foot of the bed and her feet where at the head of the bed. Eventually, they had to call a priest over to bless the place. That's when their experiences stopped. (By Patricia) My Sister In-Law My Sister In-Law A Big Old House A Big Old House On Lusitana and N. School Street there’s a big old house that occupied several tenants. My family and I occupied the sizable basement of the house. And man, that house was a trip. One night, my wife, son, and daughter in-law was outside having a few drinks and enjoying each other’s company. My wife was seated next to me with my son next to her, and my daughter in-law sitting directly in front my wife and me. All of a sudden, my daughter in-law’s face started changing into a snarling, evil looking face. Stunned, we all looked at her and asked her what’s wrong, what’s wrong with your face! "Howcome it’s changing?" She looked really confused and holding and shaking her head like something was going on and she was trying to get it out or something. She kept saying, "I don't know", but yet knowing something was going on. After little while it went away and her face went back to normal. Another time we were in the yard and heard what sounded like a small kid’s evil laugh. We looked around the yard and saw this doll in the middle of the backyard. I picked it up and it started laughing again. Figuring it’s just a weird doll, I turned the doll over to turn off the switch, and was horrified to see the battery compartment was empty! I threw the doll and we all ran in the house. Those days was years ago, and I’m surprised the house is still there with people living in it! (By M.J.) THE EVIL ONES THE EVIL ONES Preying on the Weak Preying on the Weak A family of four (father, mother, son, and daughter) lives in a townhouse in Mililani Mauka. The father was out of work for more than a year with bad lower back pain. The pain was so sore that he had trouble walking at times. His doctors were at a loss to find the problem. They recommended surgery. He was just about ready to have the surgery when he paid his respects to his grandparents’ grave. Amazingly, his back pain subsided. Sometime later, his son broke one of his arms. The next year, the son broke the other arm. The father then had his knee give out on him. Sometime after that, the father had a bad case of diarrhea. We are talking BADLY. It lasted 6 weeks. His doctors again couldn't find the problem. One of the father's friends was told the run of bad luck that the family was having. The friend asked if the townhouse was ever blessed. The father called an Odaisan (Japanese priest). Without any knowledge of the past, the Odaisan asked about the father's back. He then asked about the son's arms. How one side was broken then the other side was broken a year later. The father thought back and the second arm was broken one year to the week after the first arm. The Odaisan explained to the father that there was a woman's spirit living in the house. She stays only in the bedrooms and hallway, never venturing out to the living room or kitchen. She says that this was her house. They figured that the woman must have lived on that spot long before Mililani was developed, even before pineapple was farmed extensively. The Odaisan explained that the spirit preys on the father and the son because they are weak-minded. The mother and daughter were never involved. The father asked if the spirit was bad. The Odaisan explained that if she was, the father would have been dead already. The Odaisan blessed the family and townhouse. The father's health problems went away even though the woman spirit was never exorcised. The family is currently moving. (By Anonymous) I’ve had many experiences. When they first started happening they were TERRIFYING! One time in particular happened just the other week. My sister, her partner, and I were in my apartment and all of a sudden, my dog started snarling which is very unlike her. We found her in the corner staring at the wall growling. Being the ghost hunter fanatics we are, we busted out my camera and snapped a few shots. Viewing it on the LCD screen showed nothing, but when viewing it on my computer a face appeared. It looked like a little tuft of smoke with an odd shaped face and an eerie smirk. After seeing that we sat in the room. After awhile it got hot and stuffy like the room was full of people. Outside in the parlor was COLD AS ICE like I had an AC running. So we sat in the room and prayed cause we all had an uneasy feeling like we were about to get attacked. As we finished, out of my window we heard a man’s voice say “Hey!” in a low, low whisper. Then the room returned to normal, cool, and comfy. When we woke up in the morning, my sister had a long scratch from her underarm to her hip! (By Ka'imi) "Hey!" "Hey!" First of all, let's call my grandfather's friend "Masa". Both my grandfather and his friend Masa are both "Nissei" or second generation of Japanese here on the island of Oahu. This is the story he told my mom: My grandfather was invited to Masa's family party. After a couple of hours, Masa began acting strange. He started to act like a real dog! He sat like a dog, barked like a dog, and had all the mannerisms of a real dog. Some of the people at the party began to laugh because they thought that Masa was joking around. After about 20 minutes, no one was laughing anymore. The elder members of Masa's family began to whisper the word "Inugami". Masa did not return to normal. An urgent call was made to an Odaisan or Japanese priest. An exorcism was set at a Hongwangi (Japanese church...which by the way is still standing and being used to this day). The Odaisan asked some of the family members if Masa chased his tail and caught it. My grandfather said he had no idea what that meant. Since my grandfather is a good friend of Masa's family, they asked him if he would assist in the exorcism by being there for both moral support and for using his strength to restrain Masa should he react violently to the exorcism. My grandfather said yes and also said that he was honored because only close family were permitted to attend and help. The Odaisan okayed my grandfather's presence. On the day they arrived at the church, my grandfather and another man (a family member) carried Masa out of the car. Masa was in a trance like state, but as soon as they carried him up the short flight of stairs to the church, Masa suddenly broke the grasp of both men, and began running down the street like a real dog! My grandfather and the other man chased Masa down and subdued him. Masa was struggling with the two men all the way back to the church. But once they carried him up the stairs and past the front door threshold, Masa stopped fighting and again went into that trance-like state. My grandfather and that other man placed Masa in front of the Odaisan, and both men stood on the left and right of Masa just in case they had to restrain him. Masa was sitting like a dog... do you know when you tell a dog to "sit"? Masa was sitting just like that. The Odaisan lit a lot of incense and began chanting a prayer in Japanese. He also waved a stick with a white pompom attached, and tapped a bell using some type of wooden stick. While all this was going on, my grandfather looked at Masa and noted some really spooky things: he was still in a trance-like state, and his eyes were wide open... they looked glassy and never once blinked. Then Masa's mouth would move, but no words would come out. Then he would close his mouth and an old Japanese woman's voice could be heard coming from Masa. This would repeat itself several times. The voice would never come out while Masa's mouth was moving, only when his mouth would close. I remember my grandfather saying that the exorcism lasted a long time. When the exorcism was finally over. Masa collapsed, and some of his immediate family members took care of him. Then the Odaisan asked Masa's family to stay for a special meeting, to which my grandfather was also invited to. The Odaisan asked everyone if they knew what the old Japanese woman's voice was saying. My grandfather said that everyone (including himself), said that they could only understand some of the words spoken. However, everyone agreed that most of the words sounded like they came from an old Japanese dialect that dated back in the feudal Samurai days. The Odaisan said that some of Masa's ancestors did something terrible to a family who was in charge of taking care of a very large and wealthy village. This, according to the Odaisan, occurred in the 1600's. A member of that family asked a witch to put a curse on a male of Masa's family. The witch invoked the Inugami spirit for that curse. Some prefectures (provinces) in Japan can also use among other things, the snake spirit for possession. Can you imagine someone slithering and hissing like a real snake!? Well, the men in Masa's family were very strong in mind and body, and throughout the centuries nothing happened...until Masa. He was a sickly boy growing up, and not mentally very strong but (according to my grandfather) he was a generous and good-hearted person. After the exorcism, Masa lived a normal life for only a few years then passed away suddenly. I still get chicken skin whenever I tell this story. (By GeeBee) "Inugami" "Inugami" In Japanese mythology an inugami (dog god) is a type of “shikigami” (a kind of spirit summoned to serve a practitioner, most commonly carrying out vengeance at the behest of their “owners”). One day I was at home with my kids and they wanted to watch a DVD so I went in the bedroom closet to look for a DVD and I clearly heard a growling angry male voice say, "Get out of my house!" I freaked out, grabbed my kids and ran to the neighbor's house to call my husband. And I know something is in my daughter's room because I feel like someone is watching me in there, and my daughter won't sleep in there. One time I saw my daughter crying and asked her what's wrong, and she said that she has all these bad thoughts. When asked like what, she said something is telling her to hurt me. I also found black handprints going up the wall and it was up high on the wall, to where someone couldn't reach that high up without a ladder. The handprints was black and I had to use 409 to scrub it off. (By Anonymous) Mililani Mauka On New Year’s Eve, I was at my friend's house for our annual celebration in Kapolei. One of my friends had recently lost his mother and was feeling really depressed, so he wanted to drink 2010 away. After a few hours of drinking, he broke down and started crying and saying things like he doesn't want to die alone and wants to keep his only friends close. Soon after that, he changed. He started swearing at someone we couldn't see and wanted to fight anyone that walked by. Normally, he is the most mild mannered person we know, not tonight. After watching him for a few more minutes, my other friend and his wife said he was possessed and started praying with their hand on his head while we held him down. He started to freak out and kept trying to choke me. The freakiest part of all this is, at one point he looked at me and spoke in "tongues" or a different language while my other friend and his wife prayed. Soon after, he passed out. He did not recall anything the next morning. (By Mr. N.)
