Every night after midnight, we'd hear footsteps of a man walking up and down the hallway, pacing. No one would hear it except me and my brothers, and we didn't bring it up a second time with our parents, who didn't believe in ghosts. The footsteps continued for several years, and none of us dared to go check it out. There were also strange things that also occurred, like the doors would open and shut when the windows were closed and no one was around, sounds as if someone was in the home, or someone doing something in the kitchen. And not all of those incidents happened at night either. Always, no one would be around. Eventually, we grew up and paid less attention to it, and though it happened less frequently as we grew older, it still happened. Maybe because we weren't home as often as when we were little, I don't know. But the house was brand new when we moved in, so why would it be haunted? One of my brother's friend, who is part Hawaiian, said it could be "the ground" that is built on "something". Well, we'll probably never know. But at least "our ghost" didn't cause us any harm. (By Chelsie) Back In the Day Back in the day, we used to live in a house that had a lot of unexplained activities. At night, always around midnight, you can hear someone walking around the house even though everyone would be asleep. There were times when you could even hear someone walking on the porch in the front of the house and back of the house, day or night, but on every incident, no one would be there. You can hear the hall bathroom door squeaking, swinging back and forth, even though all windows were locked. One night when I just got into bed, I saw a silhouette of an old hunched back lady with a bun in her hair (looking like an “obasan”) walk right past this long window in my room, as if she walked right outside the window on the outside of the house, but our yard was enclosed and no such old lady lived in the area. One day, I remember being in my room with my back facing my opened closet. It was broad daylight and it was a pleasant day. Then I heard a noise behind, sounding like, “Shick-shick-shick-shick…”. I froze, and started feeling panicky because I was the only one in the house and I somehow knew it was ‘the ghost’ and something must be moving behind me! With whatever courage I could conjure up in myself, I turned around and saw all the clothes hanging in my closet swinging back and forth, and I know it wasn’t the wind because nothing else in my room was moving or flying around (besides no wind could do that and no windows was near my closet). In a flash I ran right out of my room and didn’t go back in there for a while. Another incident happened in the wee hours of the night. I was lying in bed fast asleep, and could hear somebody knocking on the door post of my brothers’ room, and quite loudly. None of us slept with the bedroom doors closed. The knockings continued and I immediately thought, “Oh no, it’s the ghost again!” By then I was wide-awake. And I was praying that ‘the ghost’ wouldn’t come to my room. But it did. I heard the footsteps coming to my door and started knocking on my doorposts. By then, I was sweating bullets, hiding under the covers and praying to God with all my might. I wanted to look to see but the most part of me was too afraid to look. Suddenly, I heard the light switch right near the door flip on, but funny how the lamp light didn’t turn on, and that was it. I just stayed frozen, sweating from fear until I fell asleep sometime later. When I woke up in the morning my beddings was all wet from sweat, and when I got out of bed to check the light switch on the wall, it was ON. I don’t know what was in that house but we were the original owners and the house was brand new when we moved in. Eventually we moved into another house but it wasn’t because of the hauntings, because my parents, to my knowledge, didn’t experience anything. (By Anonymous) I vividly remember another night, where I was sleeping on the couch at my family's living room in Makakilo. This night was during the spring of 2008. Again, this particular couch sits near a huge closed window near our homes front door. At the time, the window had thicker curtains to avoid the piercing light from the street lamps and the bright lights of cars coming down the street. Anyway, that night I was sleeping on the couch after a busy day at work. During my dreams, I saw a floating lady, black frizzy hair, floating, and wearing a white dress. The thing that really freaked me out was that she was smiling. I saw her vividly in my dream, as if she was in the living room. I could see the familiar brown wooden ceilings of my house behind her. Then I clearly remember that she floated directly at me with a face that was smiling that turned into a face of anger! In my dream, she was trying to pull my body out of the window! At that moment, I woke up and my chest felt as if someone was holding me down or squeezing me! It was very hard to catch my breath, but I did and closed my eyes as tight as I could and prayed as much as I could. After praying, the feeling of tense pressure on my body disappeared. A couple days later, my best friend that lives a couple houses up the hill. Told me that he drove by our house, one night, and noticed a strange lady with dark hair, white dress and just staring....staring near our mailbox, in front of our house, and just stood there. I was freaked out and got my family's holy water that my parents have collected over the years. I did a prayer inside the house and outside of the house, near the window and on the couch. After that, the nights have been calm. Dreams have been good. Also the nights have felt a little more safe. (By Gil) Makakilo Frights - 2 I vividly remember a night in the late 1990s, where I was sleeping on the couch at my family's living room in Makakilo. This particular couch sits near a huge closed window near our homes front door. The window had a thin curtain where the streetlights could pierce through. I usually slept there due to a huge mess of clothes on my bed and it was the most comfortable spot to sleep at during Makakilo's hot humid nights. Anyway, that particular night, it was after midnight and everyone was home. The night felt different. It was warmer than usual. Also an odd silence filled the atmosphere, usually neighborhood dogs would bark crazily in the presence of people walking by or cats passing through, but there was nothing but sickening silence. All of a sudden, I heard someone pounding violently on my window! About 3 violent times. BAM! BAM! BAM! Right after the pounding of the window, I heard a dark, low, raspy demanding voice saying, "OPEN THE DOOR! LET ME IN!" BAM! BAM! BAM! 3 more bangs of the wall and window. I could seriously feel as if someone was looking at me and the dark voice's direction was directly towards me! It was so sudden, I closed my eyes tight, and prayed as much as I could. After I prayed, I was in a cold sweat. I noticed the air was less tense, No dogs were barking as they usually do, and that night it remained silent. (By Gil) Makakilo Frights - I I just happened to read the story of the Kaimuki Auditorium and decided to write about my friend. I won't mention his name out of deep respect for his "gift" to see things most people don't. I went to Kaimuki from 1992 to 1995. I participated in the Performing Arts program there and met my friend. He was a senior whom I had meet years before when I had participated in the play of “The King and I”. I had heard a lot of rumors about a janitor that had passed away in his sleep at the auditorium, how he is a practical joker who likes to bang on the poles in the rafters above the stage to get people's attention. During my time there, I had heard the sounds but had dismissed them for sounds of an old theatre. My friend the only one who ever spent so much time in the theater He knew for a fact the spirit existed, and once he even brought me close to it. I saw nothing, but all of the central air had been turned off in the theater. He took me up into the rafters, the entire place was dark, and even though the air was off, the entire place was still cool. He had me walk over to a spot just in front of the control box and off to the right. I did so humoring him, but didn't find it funny for long it was chilling cold, it gave me goose bumps, and suddenly I felt very nervous. I walked quickly back to him and he took my hand and walked back to the corner. The coldness was gone. I didn't ever go up there alone without my friend. He shared many more stories with me, but I have always believed that a spirit exists in the Kaimuki High School Auditorium. SEANCES GHOST HUNTING Hawaiian Spirits Hawaiian Spirits Click Sign Guestbook Sign Guestbook My childhood was a ruff one, growing up in Mayor Wright Homes till I was 12, where then my parents - siblings and I moved to Salt Lake. My first experience with ghosts started in our 2nd apartment at Mayor Wright near Pua Lane. I was 10 at the time, my brother was 5. First week of moving in an unsettling feeling grew heavy. I stared at an outline of what I believe was a man, at the end of the hallway. There was a open storage closet at the very end of that hallway where this figure motionlessly stood in front. My brother and I slept in the room on the left side of the hallway and my parents had the room on the right side. We slept on futons on the ground. Since we've moved in, I had a bad case of waking up in the morning in the middle of the hall, facing the storage closet. It was a constant thing on a daily basis. One night I tried to fool it by pretending that I was sound asleep. With my eyes shut closed for no more than 5 minutes seemed like an eternity at my age, so I decided to open my eyes. To my disbelief, I was staring right in to the hall closet. I never felt myself touched, never felt myself leave the ground, never heard a sound. My brother and I use to take Popsicle sticks and make crosses out of them and lay them all over the house. We believed that the crosses would allow us to sleep better and chase away the entity that lurked in the shadows. My brother and I use to sleep with weapons (nun chucks, knives, sticks) cause incase these spirits invaded our dreams, we were prepared for them in fight. I found myself being very drained. So I had the permission to sleep in another room which was on the right side, beginning of the hallway. There, my brother had a hard time sleeping cause he says a boy tends to keep him up. I had one experience in that room. It was probably 6 in the morning a hint of daylight shined through the windows above us. As if I had a bad dream, I stood straight out of my bed and witnessed a half body apparition; bottom half of a torso walk in to the room and turned left in to the bookcase. I wasn't scared, but excited to finally see something. We eventually moved out of the apartment because my parents were making money, and moved to Salt Lake. The apartment was "clean", no sense of "disturbance" just good ol' peace and quiet. One night after 4 years had passed, I practically a grown boy, was feeling lonely and decided to sleep in my brother's room. I remember that night well cause my brother's room was brightly lit from the full moon. I had been stressing for some reason, probably from school, or going through life's difficult obstacles. I was laying face down on the floor with my arms laid to my sides. My tears rowed down, and all I could ask God was to be relieved from this stress I was feeling. All of a sudden this numbness took over my body and my breathing came slow rhythmic. The shadows on the walls that where moving in all different rhythms had slowed and became one with each other. Then a sense of comfort came over me. I couldn't move or blink. I then saw two little feet walk in view. Then this being laid aside me, it was a girl that was probably 8 or 10 in a red and white dress. She laid next to me with her arms tucked under her head. She smiled at me and watched me till I fell asleep. Till today, I believe it was my sister who had passed a month after birth in '85. (By TJ) Mayor Wright Homes Mayor Wright Homes GOT A GHOSTSTORY? (Click) In the summer of 2007, I had taken my sister to a make-up artist’s home about 6 in the morning, which was in Kapolei. They lived in a nice brand new military home. Sweet women, lived with her fiancé and a child of 3 from a previous relationship. I always thought that a new home could bear no spirits, or encounter any paranormal activity. I guess I was proved wrong. Entering the home was easy; sitting in the home was a bit uncomfortable. I recall seeing two men walking around from my side view which really didn't bother me cause I thought it was the husband. When I turned to confirm my hunch, it was only one man, the husband. This would happen periodically as I sat there watching the tube while my sister was getting spiffed up for her shoot. When my sister was done, the make-up artist decided to go with us on the shoot just in case there would be any make-up disasters. In one car, we headed to Hickam Air Force Base where the shoot was at, and had stopped at a grocery store. For some reason, the conversation of ghosts came to topic. The make-up artist had pointed out a building that her fiancé and baby had stayed for a night. There she said they've encountered something unexplainable. Her baby was a infant at the time, just got tucked in the cradle. Her husband was showering and she was heading to bed. She then heard the infant crying hard, which startled her, and she tried to slip into her bed slippers which were being really complicated. So she left them and ran to the room. There she found the infant on the ground. No way of him getting out of the crib. She decided to take him to her room, and there she saw her bed slippers neatly arranged on the side of her bed. Her husband was still showering. She said that night was difficult to sleep, so the next morning they had stayed at another room. I then felt comfortable in telling her what I've experienced back at her house, and she said that she sees the same thing too. Sometimes, she believes she had seen her husband enter the bathroom, and a second later she sees the husband walk up the stairs in front of plain view. It was a confirmation for me to know what I had experienced was real. But, that's not the end of it. After the shoot was done, we headed back to the makeup artists place to retrieve my car and drop her off. Headed home to my apartment and did my normal routine I would do any night. As I headed to bed and prepared myself to sleep, my bed started to vibrate. For no reason I yelled out "stop it! leave me alone!". It stopped then a few seconds later my bed started to shake heavy. I then got on the phone with my mother and told her that my bed was shaking. She calmly told me to recite the Lord's prayer out loud with her and I did. It slowly subsided and went away. I felt comforted afterwards, so I thought. I was able to sleep that night, but the next morning I didn't have the urge to get up. I was feeling really lousy so I decided to call off work. I stayed in bed till about 1:30 in the afternoon, which then I had sat at a corner of my bed motionless, yet feeling pathetic. What had seemed to me 15 minutes on the corner of my bed, was actually 5 and a half hours cause my room-mate came home from school at 7pm. She came in to my room and was startled, by the way I looked. She asked me if I was ok, and with a irritating voice I told her I was fine. I knew I wasn't myself, so I forced myself to take a hot bath and while doing that I prayed to release whatever or whoever attached itself to me. And he did. My roommate told me as I got dressed, that it didn't look like me when she came in, that's why she was startled.
