Haunted Places - 2

When I was in college, my early spirit's experiences happened while studying alone at Hamilton Library. You can sense that there are sprits walking all around you; elevators go up and down without anyone at the controls; doors open and close without anyone around; there were many gusts of wind - very odd in an enclosed library; and papers flying of desks. Some spirits were playful, but there also were some angry ones. During the floods at UH, we helped with the clean-up, and found out that the Manoa stream's original path went through the library, and they rerouted it so that they could make better use of the campus. I personally have experienced a lot of paranormal activity at both the old Women’s Community Correctional Center. When we were on the mountain- side of Dorm 1 & 2, where there was a constant source of bad energy. On many nights, I would try to get up to use the bathroom and some unseen force would keep me out of the bathroom. When I went to dorm 5, I would often feel the creepy feeling that someone is staring at you. I soon heard that the unit was haunted by Menehunes, and that because the land was: 1) Never blessed before being built on, and 2) Built on up rooted graves, that there were quite a lot of angry spirits there. I believe the whole thing even made the newspapers, around 1982-1984. Also, on the "new" side I was many time awaken by a slap on either my feet or shoulder, which ever part of my body was facing the walkway. I also experienced, sounds coming from nowhere. A baby crying, people playing basketball and footsteps behind me while going up the walk from Kaala to Maunawili. So many things happened that it was almost commonplace. Many of the staff there, even today. Have stories as well. Some even scarier than most. You might want to interview some of the old time staff. It is a very interesting story, and fully documented by the paper. (By Anonymous)

Chinatown - Oahu

There is supposed to be a little man in Chinatown that "follow" people. For what purpose, I don't know. But he is not supposed to be friendly or ... human. (By Jim)

Pearl Harbor Elementary School - Oahu

Hello. I have a spooky thing in my school, Pearl Harbor Elementary in the library room a librarian died, and now she is haunting the library, and at night you can see the light on sometimes. When you stay in the library alone you are going to hear, Shhhhhhhhhhh!”, kids shouting and footsteps. When I was alone I also heard noises. (By Chasity)

Helemano Burial Sites? - Oahu

We live in Helemano. The people in my complex have all agreed that we have heard noises in our houses. I always hear footsteps like someone going up the stairs my neighbor’s stairs are on the opposite side of my house. (Anonymous)

There is the phantom dead-head out in Haleiwa, who supposedly smells bad, hitches a ride south of the bridge and talks a lot about all kine "buds" (weed), but people notice he shuts up after they cross the bridge, they also notice he is nowhere in the vehicle, the moving vehicle. (By Jim)

Helemano School - Oahu

This school is supposedly haunted. I have not witnessed this first hand. I've heard that at night the playground equipment (swings, teeter-totters, etc.) move on their own. I've also heard that some of the classrooms are frequently found in a shambles. With no sign of a break-in and nothing stolen, the room looks like the books and desks were flying around. (By Wahiawaboy)

The school's bridge that goes from the school to the field across the street, at night, it is said smoke, or a mist drops down from this walkway over Waipahu St. If you look up, you'll see a spirit on the walkway. (By Wahiawaboy)

In the men's bathroom at the back of the Soto Mission in Waipahu, a faceless spirit is supposed to appear. (By Wahiawaboy)

Wahiawa Intermediate School - Oahu

One of the science classrooms is home to a friendly ghost. The ghost opens and closes the closet door and often turns on the lights after school is out. Unfortunately, I didn't attend Wahiawa Intermediate School so I didn't witness any of the incidents. I have been to the school to rollerblade around after normal school hours or during the summer and have noticed that the lights in the classroom were on. (By Wahiawaboy)

Obake Park in Aiea - Oahu

There is a haunted bathroom at an Aiea park before Aiea Heights where strange things happens, like apparitions, doors slamming by themselves, etc. (By Anonymous)

I’ve been working at Kmart in Kapolei for several years and some of my co-workers reported seeing a man spirit who fits the description of a carpenter that died during the construction of Kmart. And I can tell by their faces that they weren’t ‘pulling my leg’ or anything. Apparently, the carpenter is still “on the job”. There’s also been sightings of a little girl ghost but we have no idea who she is or why she’s there. (By Anonymous)

Mililani Graveyard - Oahu

Twice I’ve been there at night, and you can always hear what sounds like singing and chanting coming from beyond the border to the graveyard. From what it looks like, even in the daytime, there is nothing on the outskirts of the graveyard. Hawaiian spirits? (By Anonymous)

I like the Paradise Park story. That place is haunted, as you know royalty lived back there. I worked at the park in the early to mid 70’s doing the night shows and the things that happened make me write this. It was always a nightmare walking out at 1 a.m. to your car and it’s almost pitch black and hearing weird sounds; anything from drumming or music, to just plain dead silence (no insect sounds), and it felt like there were people around you. And from the restaurant you know something was going on down in the park as the restaurant had a staircase that went down to the bottom. (By “Former Worker”)

The golf course at the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base Hawaii is also an area that is haunted. There are one or two holes in particular that golfing friends of mine tell me that if your ball (the reference is that this spirit likes to play with balls and it is also not a friendly spirit) goes into the bushes, just forget about it! This statement was made from several groups of golfers who do not have any ties between them. Note: Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, located on the windward of Oahu was attacked from the windward side of the island by the warriors from the other islands. When the warriors were mortally wounded, they would be carried to the bluffs of KMCB, so they could spend their last hours watching the ocean waves (I'm not sure that it was the waves, or it was the fact that they wanted to be buried close to the sea.) 1. Three employees were working on a project late at night. It was around 9 pm. The building is located near the barracks of the single soldiers, just below the main hospital. As two of the employees left to bring back dinner, the third employee was locked in the office as he had just started and didn't have the keys to the office or the building. The building is a single story building that the branch occupied. The hallway lights were left on and the two employees left the building, locking the door to the building behind them. Upon returning with dinner, the two employees opened the door to a darkened hallway. The only light could be seen coming from under the office door. The two employees went into the office and asked if the employee had turned off the light in the hallway. The third employee had mentioned that he had stayed in the office working on the project. The three employees then opened the door to the darkened hallway. The third employee stated "Oh, sh-t". The three employees checked the doors while they walked down the hallway, the doors were all locked. As the employees approached the light switch for the hallway, a sudden chill made the hair on the back of their necks stand up. That was when all three employees ran back to the office and locked all the doors. 2. In the new wing where the VA offices are, on the second floor is a single stall bathroom. One day, an employee from the office saw the cleaning lady standing in the hallway, with her back to the wall facing the bathroom. The cleaning lady had mentioned that she was waiting for the person in the bathroom to finish so she could clean the bathroom. She had tried the door but it was locked from inside. The employee looked at the restroom, indeed, a light was coming from under the door. The cleaning lady and the employee began to banter back and forth. After five minutes, the cleaning lady tried the door. The door was unlocked and there was no light coming from under the door. No one came out of the restroom as they would have been definitely seen. The two opened the door to the restroom which was dark. No one was inside the bathroom! *Side note, this bathroom was known for having the water faucet turn on and off on its own. Later, it was discovered that during World War II, the wing were the VA offices are, was the area where wounded soldiers were placed when the hospital was over capacity. (By Anonymous)

Stalled on the Windward Side - Oahu

My grandma is full-blooded Hawaiian and I grew up on the Windward side. She has told me many stories, but here's one that happened to me. This past summer (2000), my friend and I were coming back from town. We were real tired, as it was about 3 in the morning. We were headed home to Kailua. Being so tired, we decided to take a little short cut that I knew we shouldn’t have. Coming off the highway, I think it was Pali, we turned off to Dump Road that is a long, dark road that has many turns. Over the years, a couple of people have died there. Well, personally, I’ve heard many stories about the road, how you'll see white figures come over your car or your car dies!! Well that's exactly what happened! We got far enough on the road that when we looked back we couldn't see the highway. So all around us was darkness. Then all of a sudden, my headlights went out!! I didn't want to stop because I was too dam scared. My friend thought I was playing a trick on her!! Then I slowed down and my car turned off. My friend then knew I wasn't joking when she heard tears coming from me!! We both started freaking out and locked the doors fast! I tried starting the car but nothing and no lights! About 3 minutes later, the car turned on and the lights came on!!! I stepped on the gas and drove out of there fast!!!! So from that day on, I’ve never drove down Dump Road at night! Many people in my family have had that exact same thing happen to them. (By L. Souza)
