I personally have experienced a lot of paranormal activity at both the old Women’s Community Correctional Center. When we were on the mountain- side of Dorm 1 & 2, where there was a constant source of bad energy. On many nights, I would try to get up to use the bathroom and some unseen force would keep me out of the bathroom. When I went to dorm 5, I would often feel the creepy feeling that someone is staring at you. I soon heard that the unit was haunted by Menehunes, and that because the land was: 1) Never blessed before being built on, and 2) Built on up rooted graves, that there were quite a lot of angry spirits there. I believe the whole thing even made the newspapers, around 1982-1984. Also, on the "new" side I was many time awaken by a slap on either my feet or shoulder, which ever part of my body was facing the walkway. I also experienced, sounds coming from nowhere. A baby crying, people playing basketball and footsteps behind me while going up the walk from Kaala to Maunawili. So many things happened that it was almost commonplace. Many of the staff there, even today. Have stories as well. Some even scarier than most. You might want to interview some of the old time staff. We live in Helemano. The people in my complex have all agreed that we have heard noises in our houses. I always hear footsteps like someone going up the stairs my neighbor’s stairs are on the opposite side of my house. (Anonymous)

There is the phantom dead-head out in Haleiwa, who supposedly smells bad, hitches a ride south of the bridge and talks a lot about all kine "buds" (weed), but people notice he shuts up after they cross the bridge, they also notice he is nowhere in the vehicle, the moving vehicle. (By Jim)

This school is supposedly haunted. I have not witnessed this first hand. I've heard that at night the playground equipment (swings, teeter-totters, etc.) move on their own. I've also heard that some of the classrooms are frequently found in a shambles. With no sign of a break-in and nothing stolen, the room looks like the books and desks were flying around. The school's bridge that goes from the school to the field across the street, at night, it is said smoke, or a mist drops down from this walkway over Waipahu St. If you look up, you'll see a spirit on the walkway. (By Wahiawaboy)

Wahiawa Intermediate School - Oahu

One of the science classrooms is home to a friendly ghost. The ghost opens and closes the closet door and often turns on the lights after school is out. Unfortunately, I didn't attend Wahiawa Intermediate School so I didn't witness any of the incidents. I have been to the school to rollerblade around after normal school hours or during the summer and have noticed that the lights in the classroom were on. (By Wahiawaboy)

I’ve been working at Kmart in Kapolei for several years and some of my co-workers reported seeing a man spirit who fits the description of a carpenter that died during the construction of Kmart. And I can tell by their faces that they weren’t ‘pulling my leg’ or anything. Apparently, the carpenter is still “on the job”. There’s also been sightings of a little girl ghost but we have no idea who she is or why she’s there. (By Anonymous)

The golf course at the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base Hawaii is also an area that is haunted. There are one or two holes in particular that golfing friends of mine tell me that if your ball (the reference is that this spirit likes to play with balls and it is also not a friendly spirit) goes into the bushes, just forget about it! This statement was made from several groups of golfers who do not have any ties between them. Note: Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, located on the windward of Oahu was attacked from the windward side of the island by the warriors from the other islands. When the warriors were mortally wounded, they would be carried to the bluffs of KMCB, so they could spend their last hours watching the ocean waves (I'm not sure that it was the waves, or it was the fact that they wanted to be buried close to the sea.) There are 2 places where I have heard that at certain times of night an apparition of a hanging man or woman can be seen. The first is on Kaukonahua Road. This is the road between Schofield Barracks and Waialua. When the road starts winding through the ironwood trees, a ghostly vision of a hanging person can be seen at night at certain times. I have never seen it. Also, in front of the Dole Plantation out on Kamehameha Highway, a vision of a hanging person supposedly could be seen in a telephone booth. I don't think this telephone booth still exists over there. I think there is/was a story of suicide that goes along with each apparition. (By Wahiawaboy)

Sitting in the middle of what used to be a sugarcane field is the remnants of a church. This church supposedly burned down and was left untouched in the field for unknown reasons. I have heard that this church is haunted although I don't have any idea on what happens there. Now that the sugar industry in Hawaii has collapsed and the field is now used for other agricultural uses, the remnant of the church is visible from the road. (By Wahiawaboy)

There's been resports of people who go by the fishing area near Campbell Industrial area, hearing screams, footsteps, and other weird happenings. Some say the area used to be some kind of Hawaiian ritual area, but I guess no one seems to really know. Being able to feel certain things, those times we went fishing there, all I know is there's alot of weird energies and spirits around. (By Christy)

I have a friend who lives in the really nice area near where Waialae Drive-In used to be. Of course, everybody knows that whole area, including where Waialae Drive-In used to be, was a graveyard. Well this friend of mine never believes in ghosts and stuff like that until they moved there. She didn't want to get into it, but said that all kinds of things been happening in the house, and not only their house but their neighbors as well. One day, (their neighbors too) found bones in their yard when digging to make flower gardens, etc! The officials were called but that was about it. It reminds me a little of that movie "Poltergeist", where they may have just moved the headstones but not the corpses, which was the reason for the "paranormal activity". (By Anonymous)

I've lived in Waialua all my life, where there have been reports of people seeing a man riding a white horse along the highway and connected streets, then just disappear. Nobody knows who he is, or "was". Some speculate that he might have been a "luna" back in the old plantation days. I suppose no one will ever know. (By Anonymous)

Kalaeloa - Oahu

At the end of Roosevelt avenue in Kalaeloa is an area where several fatal accidents took place at night because the road suddenly cuts off into a ditch, and if you're driving a little too fast it would certainly be hard to control the car. But now the cut off is blocked off to prevent cars from passing through, and that place is just an open dirt road area where joggers run through. Many of them report seeing "shadow people" in the area. Whether they are the spirits of those that died there or what, is unknown. I'll say one thing though. I did go down one afternoon, really not expecting to see anything, but I did. I could hear footsteps walking around my car where I was parked, but nobody was around. Then after little while, I actually saw a shadow person walk right in front of my car, and again, there was absolutely nobody around and no place nearby that the shadow person could have came from or went. And this was not at night where it's hard to see either. I could see everything, and I wasn't even parked near trees or bushes that would create an illusion of a shadow person. It was truly a "shadow person". So if any of you guys want to see ghosts, go take a drive down to the dead end road of Roosevelt avenue and park your car. You just might get lucky like I did! It was my understanding from the former owner that they were going to fix the place up but in the middle of the process strange things happened, like tools would disappear or electricity would just stop for no reason. There have been several stories over the years. The three apparitions that have been seen frequently in the store are of an old Chinese man (in the video), a little boy and a little girl. The boy is usually in the receiving bay. They often find toys in the corner of the warehouse, while the girl is thought to be on the main floor of Sam's Club. Workers recall the store selling a large doll house. On many occasions, they found cans of "Diamond Head Strawberry Soda" stacked in the house. When the doll house was finally sold, workers found cans of strawberry soda randomly placed throughout the store. Personally, I've heard the buttons on the alarm being pressed when there is no one there. I've heard electronics go off when I have positively turned them off. (By Makoto)

1. Security received a call about alarms going off on the interior of Liberty House. This must have been after midnight as no other people were in the mall. Due to a possibility of a burglary in progress, about four security guards entered the store and began to "fan out" in the store working from one end of the store to the other. The first floor was cleared and nothing was found. The four security guards began to proceed to the second floor. As the security guards turned towards the saloon area, there was a rack of stuffed animals. What the security guards saw next made everyone one of them nervous. The stuffed animals were not sitting on the shelf, but were lined up on the floor, single file, facing the storeroom. The line of animals continued to the doors leading up to the storeroom! "Old timers" stated that when Liberty House was being built, a construction worker died in the process. The worker died while building the storeroom - where the line of stuffed animals stopped! 2. A security guard received a call early one morning of a woman frantic in the women's restroom near the theaters. This was between 5 - 6 am. When one of the security guards responded, the woman had told him that as she was washing her hands, there was a woman all in white with no face looking back at her in the mirror! 3. Kahala Mall has office buildings by the post office. Behind the building is a chain-linked fence with a canal behind it. Sometime after midnight, security guards began to notice a large flock of birds screeching and circling behind the office buildings. The birds would not stop flying. This was strange as birds normally do not fly at night. Other security guards became aware of the noise as it broke a normally quiet night. The security guards became suspicious. So they decided to devise a plan to capture whoever was trespassing behind the building. Three guards would approach from one end of the building. The other guards would approach from the other end. Whoever was behind the building would get trapped in the middle. On a given signal, the security guards converged until they ran into each other. This was surprising as no one passed the guards as they rushed in. The security guards began to search the area when one of the guards looked over the canal to the other side. There was a human shape slowly approaching the canal. The guards lit up the other side of the canal with their flashlights. There was nothing on the other side except trees. The tree trunks were no bigger than an adult male's thighs - it couldn't be big enough to conceal a human figure. The security guards turned off their flashing light, and the black human shape could be seen going from tree to tree coming even closer to the canal. Again, the security guards turned on their flashlights, but nothing was there. Finally, the security guards turned off their flashlights and ran. Someone had mentioned that in the area where the security guards had seen the shape, one of the homeowners on the other side had hung himself years ago from the trees. 4. On another occasion, two security guards were doing office checks around 9 - 10 p.m. in the office towers to make sure all doors to offices were locked. Upon reaching the top offices, the sound of dental drilling and talking could be heard coming from one of the dentist office. Light could be seen coming from under the door. Security could hear through the door, a male and female voice talking and the sound of the dentist drill. It was definitely coming from within the office. Another security guard came up to stand guard to the entrance of the office, as the other security guards entered the office with an emergency key. As the two guards entered the office, one of the lights in the patient room was on. The guards fanned out and eventually met on either side of the entryway into the patient room. Whoever was in there had no way out. As the guards turned to enter the room, the room was empty! The motor on the dentist drill was cold, but how could it be when the sound of drilling could be heard coming from outside the office? The next day, the dentist was questioned about leaving the light on in the office. The dentist swore that he was the last one to leave late in the afternoon and he had made sure all the lights were off! (By Anonymous)

Yes, there is that carpenter ghost that you can hear him pounding on the steal beams late at night, also the kids that play in the loft area of the stockroom bouncing balls and running around.. there is also a lady ghost that has been seen during the nights and early mornings in the stockroom! Store air conditioners goes off during the night when the store is closed there are many chilly spots where you will be cold and have major goose bumps... new workers beware and have fun!! I've been living in Wahiawa all my life and I've also heard stories of the "green lady" that's also been seen in Wahiawa's Botanical Gardens, the bridge, the parks, and parks restrooms. I also heard from the 'old-timers' of Wahiawa that those stories were made up just to keep kids from certain places for safety reasons, especially the lake. Whatever the truth really is, I haven't seen her. Nobody I know in Wahiawa over the years have seen her either, not saying it's not true. (By Anonymous )
