HAUNTED PLACES

Hickam AFB's Guard Shack - Oahu

I heard the guard shack at Hickam is haunted by a former guard who passed away, and seen by people driving in the base. They'd see the spirit of the former guard just standing in the guard shack, staring out. Creepy! (By Chad)

The Old Liberty House in Downtown - Oahu

The Bishop Museum is reportedly haunted by people who tour the museum. But it's the security guards that experience the most, seeing shadows of people walking around the museum, hearing noises, etc. Maybe that's why the security guards don't last all that long at that place! (By M. Hart)

The "former" employess of the old Liberty House location in Downtown Honolulu must've loved their job because some of them are "still there" carrying on their duties. The current employees would often experience them, and it is certainly creepy, especially to even see them, but they try to ignore them and just carry on with their work. The "former employees" don't bother them, so the current employees don't bother them either! (By Wes)

Kalihi Valley's "Tin Roof" - Oahu

In Kalihi Valley, not too way in, has a pond, a swimming area, called, "Tin Roof" where screams are heard, and weird things going on. There is a story that someone long ago was either killed there or died there. (By Al)

Kona's King Kamehameha Hotel - Big Island

My family and I often stay at Kona's King Kamehameha Hotel when we take a trip to the Big Island, and something always takes place there. (By Nancy)

Queen's Hospital - Oahu

I know it may be obvious that hospitals must have a lot of spirits, but I know Queen's does. Every time I go and visit somebody, I can literally feel spirits walking behind or beside me. It gives me a really creepy feeling, and only when I leave the hospital, do I feel "relieved". (Anonymous)

St. Francis Medical Center - Liliha

When we were doing construction at St. Francis there was a wing that was about to be demolished to erect the parking structure. Soon before the workers were going to start knocking down the empty wing, one of the workers on the crane saw a nun at one of the windows. He was reassured that the wing was empty, for a while already, but he was so certain that he got out of the crane and refused to start demolishing the building. Workers did go and double-check, but there was absolutely no nun in the building. Nobody was. (Anonymous)

HAUNTED PLACES

Barber's Point - Oahu

There's a ghost story of a security guard at one of the gates to Barber's Point years ago, who saw a yellow Volkswagen parked on the side of the road. He went to run a check on the car and found a young woman asleep in the car. He tried to wake her but she didn't wake up, so he called in the license plate number and was stunned to learn that there was a young woman in a yellow Volkswagen with that same license plate who had died years ago in that area, and that her spirit has been seen every now and then whenever there is a new security guard. Of course, when he turned to look at the car, the car and the mysterious young woman was nowhere to be seen. (By Mack S.)

In the past year, I've had two sightings at night, right where Kahala Avenue and Diamond Head Road meet. Triangle Park separates the two roads, until they converge at the point of the park - leading to Waikiki. The first sighting happened several months ago - a thick, black shadow dashed across Diamond Head Rd. into the park. I drove around a few times, but didn't see it again, so I attributed the sighting to maybe my car lights - just catching my eye at the right angle. I completely forgot about the incident, when on a recent February night, my husband and I was driving along Diamond Head Rd again, when this same, thick, black shadow dashed out from the right side of the road, and darted straight into the park. We drove around a few times, and again, no more shadow. (By Elexis)

Black Shadows at Triangle Park - Oahu

I was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base in 1989 as a Law Enforcement Specialist/Drug dog handler. I had heard a few stories that the base was haunted, which made sense since Hickam was hit during the Pearl Harbor attack. One evening I was with another airman at the kennels, which were located at the end of the base across from the golf course. The kennel office was located inside an old bunker left over from the war. At night, it is very deserted and there is no traffic. We were sitting in the office with the front door open. We heard muffled men's voices coming from above the bunker. Airman J****** and I looked at each other with eyes wide open. We looked down at our patrol radios which were silent. We walked outside to try to look at the top of the bunker but it was too dark to see anything. There would have been no way for someone to get up there without being noticed. Needless to say, we got in our patrol vehicles and hauled butt out of there. I wonder if anyone else who worked K-9 out there experienced the same. (By "Nurse")

A Spirit on a Waialua Beach - Oahu

Aloha. I live on ***** Street, just down the road from your place. The beach access I use is the one on Crozier Drive, down towards the end of Crozier. Anyway, this past Tuesday night around 10-11p.m. I took my 12 yr old black lab, a bucket, my flash light and went down to the beach to look for glass. (I love collecting glass and shells) I drove down to the access, parked in the 'lot', then walked down the path to the beach. When I hit the sand, I turned left, and walked about 20-30 steps to the water’s edge. I started looking around in the sand, just bending over picking up only 2 pieces of glass in about 3 minutes time. As I stood up and walked a few steps all of the sudden it was as if a 'rush' of something went past me and the ground moved or shook. Before I even realized, I yelled out "HEY!" Immediately I looked around with my flash light, almost spinning around KNOWING I was going to come face to face with someone, something. But there was nothing. My dog was up high on the bank close to the fence sniffing around. I called for him to 'come', ran up the bank, and walked very fast down the path turning around several times to see if someone was there...but nothing. Got to my car and drove home. All I can say is, I know what I felt. I know the feeling I got. Something was there. (By Amy)

H-3 is Oahu's newest freeway. It travels for about 16 miles from Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station, through Haiku and Halawa Valleys, to Pearl Harbor. It cost almost 1 billion dollars and took around 20 years to build. It is said that the freeway cuts across and disturbs sacred, ancient Hawaiian sites in both valleys. Because of this, many people believe that H-3 is cursed and/or haunted. There were stories about a bulldozer levitating, men unwilling to work, or getting ill among other things. Just months before opening, a portion of girders, or something to that effect detached and fell off the freeway without any explanation. Sci-Fi Channel's “Sightings” had several segments about the freeway. Since opening, I have driven over the freeway twice a day (once in the dark morning hours and again in the opposite direction in the afternoon) almost every weekday. So far, I have yet to see or hear anything to convince me of a curse or haunting (knocking on wood). (By Wahiawaboy)

H-3 Freeway - Oahu

This is an actual experience that happened around six years ago at Kuhio Elementary school in the Mo’ili’ili area. It involved three people (one of who was myself and two friends... It happened shortly after the sun had set near the cafeteria. Me and a friend were taking to our other friend while we were facing the road with a large playground in the middle. Our other friend was facing us with his back to the playground. As we talked and joked around with each other, something strange caught my eye in the background but I tried to dismiss it. It seemed to be the figure of a person. The more I tried to ignore the silhouette, the more it tried to get my attention and by doing so, it started to run on its hands from one end of the field to the other-in about two seconds from each side! That’s when I could no longer ignore what was going on. I looked at my friend who was facing the same way I was and simply asked him if "do you see what I see? When he said "Yes". We said "Let’s get out of here". Our other friend did not know what we were talking about and kept asking "What? Why?" And without even answering him, we left. (By Tasha)

On the top of Poola Street past Kalani High School heading east there is a level landing, and if you park your car there, let go of the brakes and put your car in neutral, the car will start to move. We’ve heard the story and tried it. Sure enough it works! (By Karen)

THE NIGHT MARCHERS

THE NIGHT MARCHERS

When I was in college, my early spirit's experiences happened while studying alone at Hamilton Library. You can sense that there are sprits walking all around you; elevators go up and down without anyone at the controls; doors open and close without anyone around; there were many gusts of wind - very odd in an enclosed library; and papers flying of desks. Some spirits were playful, but there also were some angry ones. During the floods at UH, we helped with the clean-up, and found out that the Manoa stream's original path went through the library, and they rerouted it so that they could make better use of the campus. Hello. I have a spooky thing in my school, Pearl Harbor Elementary in the library room a librarian died, and now she is haunting the library, and at night you can see the light on sometimes. When you stay in the library alone you are going to hear, Shhhhhhhhhhh!”, kids shouting and footsteps. When I was alone I also heard noises. (By Chasity)

I like the Paradise Park story. That place is haunted, as you know royalty lived back there. I worked at the park in the early to mid 70’s doing the night shows and the things that happened make me write this. It was always a nightmare walking out at 1 a.m. to your car and it’s almost pitch black and hearing weird sounds; anything from drumming or music, to just plain dead silence (no insect sounds), and it felt like there were people around you. And from the restaurant you know something was going on down in the park as the restaurant had a staircase that went down to the bottom. (By “Former Worker”)

1. Three employees were working on a project late at night. It was around 9 pm. The building is located near the barracks of the single soldiers, just below the main hospital. As two of the employees left to bring back dinner, the third employee was locked in the office as he had just started and didn't have the keys to the office or the building. The building is a single story building that the branch occupied. The hallway lights were left on and the two employees left the building, locking the door to the building behind them. Upon returning with dinner, the two employees opened the door to a darkened hallway. The only light could be seen coming from under the office door. The two employees went into the office and asked if the employee had turned off the light in the hallway. The third employee had mentioned that he had stayed in the office working on the project. The three employees then opened the door to the darkened hallway. The third employee stated "Oh, sh-t". The three employees checked the doors while they walked down the hallway, the doors were all locked. As the employees approached the light switch for the hallway, a sudden chill made the hair on the back of their necks stand up. That was when all three employees ran back to the office and locked all the doors. 2. In the new wing where the VA offices are, on the second floor is a single stall bathroom. One day, an employee from the office saw the cleaning lady standing in the hallway, with her back to the wall facing the bathroom. The cleaning lady had mentioned that she was waiting for the person in the bathroom to finish so she could clean the bathroom. She had tried the door but it was locked from inside. The employee looked at the restroom, indeed, a light was coming from under the door. The cleaning lady and the employee began to banter back and forth. After five minutes, the cleaning lady tried the door. The door was unlocked and there was no light coming from under the door. No one came out of the restroom as they would have been definitely seen. The two opened the door to the restroom which was dark. No one was inside the bathroom! *Side note, this bathroom was known for having the water faucet turn on and off on its own. Later, it was discovered that during World War II, the wing were the VA offices are, was the area where wounded soldiers were placed when the hospital was over capacity. (By Anonymous)

Stalled on the Windward Side - Oahu

My grandma is full-blooded Hawaiian and I grew up on the Windward side. She has told me many stories, but here's one that happened to me. This past summer (2000), my friend and I were coming back from town. We were real tired, as it was about 3 in the morning. We were headed home to Kailua. Being so tired, we decided to take a little short cut that I knew we shouldn’t have. Coming off the highway, I think it was Pali, we turned off to Dump Road that is a long, dark road that has many turns. Over the years, a couple of people have died there. Well, personally, I’ve heard many stories about the road, how you'll see white figures come over your car or your car dies!! Well that's exactly what happened! We got far enough on the road that when we looked back we couldn't see the highway. So all around us was darkness. Then all of a sudden, my headlights went out!! I didn't want to stop because I was too dam scared. My friend thought I was playing a trick on her!! Then I slowed down and my car turned off. My friend then knew I wasn't joking when she heard tears coming from me!! We both started freaking out and locked the doors fast! I tried starting the car but nothing and no lights! About 3 minutes later, the car turned on and the lights came on!!! I stepped on the gas and drove out of there fast!!!! So from that day on, I’ve never drove down Dump Road at night! Many people in my family have had that exact same thing happen to them. (By L. Souza)
