And so we went - to a graveyard on the Leeward side. We found a tree to park under, turned the car off, and waited. It was dark, but you could still see because of the lights in the surrounding area where the buildings are. The most we expected to experience was sensing spirits walking around, but we experienced a bit more. After only about 15 minutes, Jay began looking out his open window toward the upper back area of the car. Just when he began looking outside, I noticed a blue light that appeared ahead among the graves. I immediately figured it was due to some type of reflection from something on a grave, like a glass vase or pinwheel, until another blue light gracefully appeared; then another. That's when I began wondering out loud what that was, while Jay was being distracted by something that was causing him to keep turning around to look out his window. He kept hearing footsteps, walking toward our car, but when he'd turn to look nobody would be there. Meantime, the blue lights kept gracefully appearing, but now it started getting scary because the lights were forming a single-lined path toward us, and getting closer and closer with each appearing light! Now, I was almost sitting at the edge of my seat, trying to decide if we should stay and see what would happen, or leave. It's a really different feeling when you're in "their realm", especially at night. It felt like we needed to make a decision right away because the lights ahead were almost across the street in distance from us, and the footsteps were also closing in. Then in a flash, I yelled, "Let's get out of here!" Jay quickly started the car, looked out his window once more, and high-tailed it down to the parking lot below, where some people were coming out from a service. Jay parked the car and we both sat quietly and still for a few minutes, then looked at each other and began laughing from being so scared. Then Jay said, "I didn't want to tell you until we got out of there, but right before I started to drive out of there, the footsteps came right outside my door, and when I turned to look, I felt a finger push my forehead, pushing my head back." That's when I said, "I think it's time to go." (Anonymous) The Former, Paradise Park The Former, Paradise Park One Saturday night, we were cruising town and decided to see if there was any truth to the rumors of ghostly experiences at Paradise Park in Manoa Valley. And on our way deep into the valley a friend began telling us of a previous experience that happened on a trail at Paradise Park, where an old Hawaiian man dressed in a white toga-looking garb, came walking out of the bushes and told them to, "Go back". And as they began leaving, the old Hawaiian man suddenly disappeared into thin air. Although we all kept an opened mind, we figured that we probably wouldn’t experience anything when we got there. Soon enough, we were on the road that leads straight to Paradise Park, which is virtually at the end of that road. None of us had been there for many years since the park closed down (though I think a restaurant exists there now). As we began to get closer to the park, the dense growth of trees and shrubs gets thicker and thicker, as if you’re driving into a thick forest, like on Old Pali Road. The driver begins to slow the car down, then to a crawl, when we approached the entrance that was just ahead. Then we stopped in the middle of the road. All of us sat motionless in the car, and nobody uttered one sound. We stared at the entrance to the park that looked as if the entrance was the opening of a big, dark, and spooky cave, formed by the forest and overhang of the trees. But what froze us, was the overwhelming feeling of many spirit faces that outlined the entire entrance to this "cave" that was watching us very intensely, waiting, waiting to see if we were going to come in. We all felt the same thing. Them staring at us, and us staring at them, felt like a silent and motionless "stand-off" that lasted for a good minute and a half, until someone in the car broke the silence and said, "We’d better get out of here," and right away, we did. Going "ghost hunting" can be a spooky but really fun experience, especially when you’re in a group, but even in a group, there was no way in hell that any of us was ready for what really felt like some kind of "challenge". Not then, and not ever. Till this day, we still wonder what would have happened, had we drove in. But that’s all we do is wonder. We don’t get curious about it, knowing that curiosity just may kill the cat. (Anonymous) Click here to see "BEHIND THE STORY" I have been to Pearl City High School at night on four separate occasions. Weird things have happened but not on every trip. What follows is a summary of the things that happened over all the different trips. 1) It sounded like a very large crowd of people were partying and making a loud ruckus in the upper parking lot. A friend and I were walking down a flight of stairs to get to a main hallway. Just before stepping out into the hallway, a crashing sound, like a light bulb was thrown in front of us, stopped us short. Looking around, we didn't see anyone or anything. 2) The four of us were planning on where to go next. We were at an area where 2 hallways made a T-intersection on the second floor of a three-story building. Two people were standing against a wall in the main hallway. Me and another person were standing against the adjacent wall in the second hallway. As we stood there, I began hearing what sounded like someone was tapping something against the metal railing and then sliding the object across it. Tap-tap-slide. Over and over. I looked down the hall, but couldn't see anything because it was dark. I asked my friend next to me if he heard what I heard. He listened and he heard it too. But we both still didn't see anything. Getting a little antsy, we both moved into the main hallway. The other two guys asked what was going on and after they heard the noise and didn't see anything, we left. 3) While standing in the main hallway on the second floor, we saw a white object at the far end. As we walked toward it, it disappeared. When we got to the end, we didn't see anybody or anything that could've given us the illusion of something there. 4) After an uneventful trip, we were leaving and by a building (it was the library if I remember correctly) below the three-story building. As we looked back at the three-story building, we saw a dark figure (it was night so it was hard to make out any details) walking around on the third floor. But while we were in the building, all the stairwells up to the third floor that we saw were locked. 5) The four of us were walking down the main hallway on the second floor. As we approached a hallway that went perpendicular to the main hallway, a metal trash can flew into the hallway as if someone had kicked or pushed it. No one besides us was around. Well, that's all that I can remember about Pearl City High School. Most of the events that happened here probably doesn't sound too scary, but it gave a weird feeling for all that was there. Especially with the trash can. That was the last trip we made there. (By Wahiawaboy) Pearl City High School I don't really know how much of it is real or just us hearing things, but I went there with a few of my co-workers one night. We heard of stories about A-building which is in the back if you enter the school at the court yard. When I was going school there the A-building was the building that had the classes like sewing & home economics. Anyway there's one class that had a bunch of sewing machines for the sewing class. People said that A-building is the most haunted building in the school. Plus the school is supposedly an ancient battle ground where Hawaiians fought & died, which is why that area is the most haunted in the school. But one night we went, we entered the school from the front. Our main purpose was to make it to A-building, being that it was the most haunted area. We heard that if you go to A-building late at night you can hear the sewing machines all on in the classrooms when there is supposedly no one there. We started to walk towards the walk way in the middle of the buildings which led to the back of the campus where A-building was. We got to the walk way and walked almost to the end where A-building was. There was no lights whatsoever on our way there. It was really dark. But as we got closer to the court yard we heard loud noises coming from A-building, like machines running. It sounded exactly like a bunch of sewing machines on inside the classrooms! We was thinking no way! I mean you hear stories all the time about ghosts or things happening and no matter how much you may believe what you hear about you still can't believe it until it actually happens to you. We ran so fast out of the school & didn't stop running until we got to the car. It was a really intense situation. I'm not a 100% sure of what that sound was because we didn't see anything physically or didn't make it to the classrooms where we heard the noises, so I can't say for sure if it was ghosts or actual sewing machines running. But one thing I do know for sure is that it did sound exactly like sewing machines & there was ABSOLUTELY NO ONE there at the school besides us. No cars in the parking lot. No lights coming from any of the classes. Nothing. That was one experience I'll never forget. After that incident, I always think twice before going ghost hunting. That experience taught me that if you go out looking for something, be prepared because you might just find what you're looking for! (By S. Pedaso) Aiea Intermediate School The Evil Ones Night Visitors Spirit Guides A Cemetery on Oahu's Leeward Side A Cemetery on Oahu's Leeward Side Me and my two friends thought it would be exciting to go to a cemetery one night to see if we'd experience anything. We sat in the car, and after a while, we all got sat really still and quiet, after talking about ghosts and stuff. That's when on my side of the window, I saw an old Filipino lady all dressed in black come from behind and looked at me through my window! I gasped, but didn't turn to look, but I could see that she wore a long black dress and a like a veil she wore on her head that cultural women would wear to church, etc. It looked as if "she" was dressed for a funeral, but she was the "dead one". I seemed to wake everybody up when I said, "Let's go already", and didn't tell them what happened until we were far from the cemetery, which is when they freaked out. (By Naomi) LET'S COMMUNICATE SPIRIT VOICES Aiea Intermediate School Pearl City High School SPIRIT VOICES Spirit Guides Night Visitors LET'S COMMUNICATE OBAKES IN HAWAII OBAKES IN HAWAII I've had many encounters with this particular haunted site. I'll be as chronologically correct as I can. A group of friends wanted to go ghost hunting. We all piled into our friends station wagon (I'd say somewhere about 10 of us or so...). We had originally planned to go to Mililani Cemetery (local legend has it that if you go around a particular statue several times, it's gaze is supposed to follow you, or something like that, while some versions even say that it gets off its pedestal and chases after you... never had either experience, but anyway.) The driver of the car, Sonia, said "You guys, my sister was telling me about this haunted toilet she went to not too long ago..." "What!?!?! Haunted TOILET!?!?!" Most of us laughed. She said "Yeah, the story is that this lady had a child she didn't want, so she killed it, dismembered it, and flushed the pieces down the toilet of this public park. So now, whenever you flush the toilet at night, it says 'help me'." I said, utterly amused by this, "Yeah, let's go!!!” Unfortunately, she wasn't sure of where it was. All she knew was that it was a public park in Wahiawa. We wandered around for what seemed like forever. She finally called home and got directions from her sister. We finally got there. It was down a long parking lot with no lights, save our headlights which were shining on a creepy old brick building. Sonia turned to us and said "This is it guys" "AAAGGGHHHH!!!" we all screamed. We sat there staring at the building for a while... no one wanted to get out of the car. Finally, Sonia said "Let me turn the car around, because if we do hear this, we're all going to panic and run out, then I'll have to turn the damn car around." "Good idea" I said, so she turned the car around, and there we were, now staring at the building through the back window. Finally, one person, Jared, got out of the passenger seat and said "Fine, I'll go." He stood out there for a few seconds and said "I'm not going alone". I got out of the car next, and then eventually everyone came out. Now picture this hilarious sight. Close to a dozen people huddled together in a large blanket moving ‘en masse’ towards a public bathroom at night, totally in fear of what lay ahead. We got there and found that the lights didn't work (of course). Jared is the only one brave enough to go, and he goes in and turns a corner, disappearing from view. We hear him go "Oh S**T!" We all scream "WHAT?!?!?!" He says, "There's four stalls" "AGGHGGGGHHH!!!!" we scream again. He says, "Okay, I'll flush the first one, then come out". He does so. We wait. Nothing. "Awww." we cry. Jared says, "I can't handle doing this three more times" as he drags the next person in line, John, to help him. Jared says he'll flush two of them, and John only needs to flush one. They'll flush them all, then come running out. We hear a barrage of flushes, then nothing. We were all quite disappointed. Just then a member of our group, Dre, says, "Hey there's someone coming." We all freaked out and ran for the car. We got to the car, but we saw no one around. Dre, who is sitting to my left suddenly buries his head between his legs, and literally starts shaking like a leaf, refusing to tell us what he saw until we were far away from this place. I said, "We might as well leave since we didn't hear the voice." Jared said one of the toilets didn't flush when he pushed the handle. Dre refused to budge, but after some time, we all decided to go, except for Dre and Sonia who stayed in the car. So there we went again in the tight blanket. Jared turns the corner and flushes, but it only flushes half way. The water settles. We hear something that kind of sounds like a moan. Jared flushes again, this time holding it down until the flush is complete. The water settles. Nothing. Just as we let our guard down, we heard it. "HELP ME." We ran screaming to the car. Now, again, being the skeptic, as we drove away, I wondered... could it have just been pipes or something easily explainable? After some internal dialogue, I was pretty certain that it was not something supernatural. Until the next week, when some friends from one of the clubs I belonged to at UH wanted to go ghost hunting. We all got down there, at my suggestion, and three of the guys were TOTAL skeptics (almost borderline disrespectful). They kept flushing and flushing. This where my skepticism quickly disappeared. The "p" in "help" was very distinct. You could tell, because the "help me" was getting louder with each successive flush, amazingly enough, and by the fifth flush, we all started to smell sulfur, at which time, we all thought it was a good idea to leave. One of the three skeptics (who shall remain nameless...) was caught apologizing to the toilet. Pretty funny sight. I took several other trips to this haunted toilet, though two of the more recent ones stand out. We went one night, and for the first time, the light in the bathroom was working. I went in to flush, but nothing happened. I flushed several times to no avail. We went outside, disappointed. A few moments later, a truckload of teenagers went in, obviously there for the same reason. They went in and flushed, with no effect. One guy came back out to the truck, got an air gun, went back in and shot the light out (VANDAL!!!) We then heard a flush, and moments later, they all came out screaming their heads off. We asked them if it worked with the light out, and they said "Yup". We went in and tried it... sure enough it worked. Strange, eh. Anyway, the last trip I took there was about a year or so ago. There'll be no more tales of the haunted toilet at Fred Wright Park. It's been removed. There are now three stalls instead of four, and one (oddly enough one of the ones that was "the" toilet) has been covered by a handicapped stall. (By Chad O.) Fred Wright Park's Haunted Toilet Fred Wright Park's Haunted Toilet Back in HIgh School I had a car full of my cheerleader girl friends going cruising one night, and we decided to catch some spooky-fun at a popular graveyard on the Leeward side. As we were driving around the graveyard, one of the girls in the back started screaming, hiding her face and wanted us to leave that place. Everyone else thought that she was just over-reacting, but after a while we decided to leave, being she was in tears already. After we left the graveyard, she told us that she saw an old lady ghost up on the hill looking at them, then in a flash, she was at the car's window looking in at her sitting in the back seat! That's when she screamed. Of course, none of us saw or experienced anything, and from her reaction to what she had just told us, we were glad we didn't because she was really shaken up from the experience! (By T.C.)
