Encounters - 7

Our Scary Experience at Acid Hill

In the 1970's while in high school at James Campbell, my friends and I experienced a weekend night of surprised horror that sobered us up with a vow never to go there again. There were two car loads of juveniles all drunk and stoned hungry for thrills and laughter. I was a driver that night and kept scolding my friends to stop throwing out their beer bottles. One of them actually went outside to pee. He came back and said that he had heard something, like a baby crying. At first no one in our car could hear it with all the screaming going on. But, I quieted everyone and we rolled our windows down, and it was so loud as if the baby was right alongside of car. I freaked out and tried to start my car but I couldn't even get a click. Then all of a sudden my steering handle started to vibrate, and it got louder. I yelled at everyone in our car to shut up and listen. They all witnessed it as well, and one of them was constantly yelling to get us out of here. With the car not starting all, I could think of was praying and asking whatever spirits that we had disturbed, to forgive us. At that instant my car started without me even turning the key. I put it in gear and burned rubber out of there. Half way down the hill we stopped, concerned about our other 'brothers'. Some suggested we go back and some decided otherwise, and just wanted to go home. Then like a flash their car came flying by. We stopped side by side at the bottom of the road, opened our windows and started sharing our experiences. "Hey, did you hear the baby crying?", someone said. Then at that very instant the street lights on both sides turned off for a second, then back on, then off again, and back on. At that point we all looked at each other and screamed. We got back to Ewa so fast, not even stopping for eats or anything. We drove to our favorite park and vowed never to mess with the spirits again. Someone once told me that an old Hawaiian graveyard rested near Acid Hill. I now believe them and have since developed a tremendous respect for cemeteries, known haunted sites, and above all, the spirit world. God bless their souls and help them find their way to peaceful and eternal rest. Amen. *Please note that this story that I have shared with you is my real life "god's truth" experience. Thank you for this site and for allowing me to share this and finally getting it off my chest. (By Charles Bucao)

Richardson Swimming Pool, Pearl Harbor

Back in 2001, at approximately 1 to 2:30 am. I experienced something I will never forget. As a Federal Police Officer on Patrol in the Arizona Memorial Visitors area, I discovered a vehicle parked just below the Richardson Swimming Pool. As I parked my Police vehicle in front of this vehicle, I ran the License Plates and walked around the vehicle checking for anything out of the ordinary. My search lights from my police vehicle illuminated the vehicle I was searching. Out of nowhere, I heard water splashing and people laughing! I looked up to where the entrance to the swimming pool was and I noticed that the gate was opened. I immediately called for backup, assuming the neighborhood kids from across the street had jumped the fence and were swimming in the pool. One unit staged himself on Kamehameha Highway in case the kids ran back across the street. As I walked up the stairs towards the opened gate and I heard very clearly the diving board springing into action as someone just jumped off of it. I entered the gate, saw the splash as the water was coming down.... and just like that... it got eerily quiet. No one was in the pool and the water was moving! I took a step back, took out my revolver wondering what the heck! I just couldn't believe what had happened just then! When my fellow officers arrived, the Major asked me, "What, did you see ghosts, too?" To be honest, I've heard so many stories in my life about ghosts but had never really believed it until it happened to me. I shared this with my family and even brought them all to the swimming pool the very next day. Speaking with my dad who was stationed in Pearl Harbor during WWII, he stated that the Swimming Pool was a staging area for the wounded and dead during the attack on Pearl Harbor. I just thought I'd share this. It was kind of weird because I don't recall being scared or anything, it was more like shocked, and disbelief of what had happened. From the very beginning, I should of noticed first thing that the gate was opened as I approached this vehicle. Even when I exited my vehicle, there was no sound or anything. And then just like that, the water splashing and people laughing. To see the water coming down and being stirred as if hundreds of people were swimming, is something so unreal, with a mixture of fear, fascination and a belief that perhaps, the dead still walk the face of the earth.... One time I was in the living room nighttime and happened to catch out of the corner of my eye, a shadow darting across the bedroom doorway going towards the bathroom. It was a little bit more than a simple movement to the point where I went to the bedroom to look but of course nothing I could see was there. Then last night I was playing my computer game and the screen suddenly went down so I tried to bring it back up so I can continue playing and it wouldn't go up and almost going haywire so I thought..."felt like someone wanted me to stop." What a trip, eh? And remember when I was in the bedroom trying to sleep I heard some noise in the living/dining room area which was odd enough to prompt me to get up and go check....again, nothing I could see was there. I'm wondering howcome all of a sudden all these odd things happening to me? Not that I mind. It doesn't really scare me so that's the main thing. (By J.H.)

All of a Sudden

A Daylight Encounter on Maui

A strange thing happened yesterday afternoon. I was playing tennis with my friend who had taught for hours and sat down on the court to take a break. I sat in a beach chair he had on the edge of the court. I kept hearing something behind me to my left. I glanced at least three times. At one point I saw something out of the corner of my eye, near the gate and hedge. He then commented that he thought he just saw something behind me. It obviously wasn't a person. I agreed and then joked it was my ghost. It was just bizarre. There was no human being there. It was daylight at the time and only a few feet away. (By Julie)

This happened around 6 p.m. one day right after work. My supervisor was outside putting things away and I was in the office locking up and before leaving the office I went to use the restroom. While I was in there, I heard someone on the other side of the wall that was the men's room. We have one of those motion paper towel detector where you wave your hand in front of it and the paper towel comes out and that is what I heard. So no big deal. I thought maybe my boss came in to use the restroom. I went outside and past the men's room on my way out. I was puzzled to find nobody inside. The paper towel had ejected and the lights was out. I went back to the front of the office and saw from the glass doors that my boss was still outside! Nobody else was in the office except me. I quickly gathered my things and left for home. That was the first time anything 'weird' happened. I don't know if that was a ghost that was in the men's room but I wasn't about to stick around and find out! (By Anonymous)

The Men's Room

(This incident occurred in 1970, when I was living in Waimanalo.) My grandfather and grandmother lived in an old plantation house located very near to the old basketball gym in Waimanalo. Many years earlier, my grandmother had suffered a massive stroke which left her bed ridden, and she suffered greatly until she finally passed away in 1969. She died in that house. In 1970, mom and I moved in with my grandfather (in that same house) in order to assist him. I was 11 years old at this time. I had to stay in the room that my grandmother died in (my strong protests fell on deaf ears). After a few months living there, I began having terrible nightmares for 2 straight weeks. In the nightmare, my grandmother was chasing me and trying to grab my shoulders. It felt like she was desperately trying to tell me something. Just before she would catch me, I would suddenly wake up and sweating so much that I would be soaking wet. Every night for 2 weeks I would awaken that way. The last nightmare occurred on a Wednesday night, and the very next day on Thursday after school. After I finished all of my chores and homework, I plopped myself into the living room couch. I looked at the clock that was sitting on top of the TV and it was 5 p.m. My favorite TV show "Gilligan's Island" was about to start, but before I could move from the couch to turn on the TV, all hell broke loose. It felt and sounded like a bomb went off in the house. The noise was so loud and the house shook so violently. I thought I was actually experiencing an earthquake. I was so stunned that I could not move a muscle. After a few seconds had passed, I felt the house slowly lift up (about a foot or so) and then it just dropped with a loud boom! The house shook violently. After another few seconds had passed, the house again lifted up slowly (again about a foot or so) then dropped with another loud boom! The house shook violently. Then all was still and quiet. I was so scared that my fingers was digging deep into the couch and I still could not move. I would like to describe to you what it felt like when the house lifted and dropped. Imagine that you are sitting on the top of a good sized table, and one person located on each corner grabbed that table and lifted you slowly up about a foot off the ground. Then they suddenly let go! That's what it felt like. After the shock wore off, I went outside to check around the house for damages (or for any evidence to show what I had just experienced). I was expecting to see pieces of broken wood or even for the house to be tilted, but there wasn't anything that I could see. No reports of an earthquake on the news that evening, and I even asked my neighbors if they felt or heard anything. No one experienced anything unusual. I strongly feel that my grandmother's spirit was trying to leave the house but was not able to do so because of familiarity, long term illness, and death. (By GeeBee)

HouseQuake!

Something Strange in Hawaii Kai

One night my wife and youngest daughter were both saw a shadow go up our stairs. Then a few weeks ago, my oldest daughter's boyfriend was sitting in the living room and he saw a shadow go up the stairs. Since that time, he said he thinks a ghost attached itself to him because he started feeling "weird" so his mother took him to see a priest and then he felt much better. He has refused to come in the house since. In the downstairs bathroom, a cabinet door has closed by itself many times. Think I'm watching too much Ghost Adventures..... (By E.N.)
