Encounters - 4My father was stationed at Hickam AFB in 1989. We took the house out on Apollo Avenue because it had air conditioning. Not long after living there, things began to happen. The front bedroom (at the end of the short hallway) was impossible to sleep in. It was my 8-month-old son's room, but he never slept in it. One night, my sister wanted to sleep in the room to see why he woke up screaming every time we put him in his crib, fast asleep. That night, her blankets were pulled off and the room was extremely cold. She pulled them up, and they were pulled off again. That happened once more before she said she couldn't take it anymore and came back to the bedroom we shared (all three of us). We always heard our names being called, as if someone was whispering in our ears. Mostly this happened as were walking up and down the stairs. We saw a few ghosts during our stay there. I saw a woman in a black dress sitting in the upstairs bathroom at the end of the long hallway. She looked sad and made eye contact with me as I reached the top of the stairs. My bedroom was right next to the bathroom; and not only did I have her starring at me, I had that uncomfortable feeling pouring out from the front bedroom. YIKES! My sister saw a woman in white, like a nursing type uniform, floating up the stairs. My mother had someone climb in bed with her. She thought it was my father coming to bed, but when she turned over to say goodnight, there was not one there. She saw an impression though where something was lying. My father saw a shadow figure in his bedroom doorway one night. He thought it was one of his daughters, so he asked if we needed something. The shadow didn't answer. That next morning, he asked us who came to his room and why we didn't answer him. We were astonished. No one had gone in his room. One night, my sister wanted to leave my parents a note to wake her up that morning but they were asleep already, so she wrote a quick message on a piece of paper that she slipped under the door into the hallway. Our parent's room was across the hall. Hickam AFB - Apollo Avenue It feels weird to talk about this but after reading a few stories on your site, I felt compelled to share mine. I am in the Air Force and had an assignment back to Hawaii to Bellows AFS. I wanted to live close to my mother so I took up residence at the apartment across from the Saimin Factory on Waiola street I decided on the corner apartment facing the road on the second floor. It was one bedroom one bath with a large living room that connected with a built in kitchen. Shortly after I moved in, I would notice that every time I took a shower either my bedroom door would slam shut or the bathroom door would slam shut. Now mind you, there is no wind strong enough to move through my apartment since the walls are made of solid cement and the small windows are behind the bedroom and the bathroom. I still tried to dismiss it as nothing until one night my boyfriend came over just before we were to go out that night. I was in the bathroom taking a shower and he was in the bedroom waiting... when I came out he was staring into the corner and his face was pale. I asked him "You saw it didn't you?" he snapped out of his stare and looked at me in shock, "Saw what!?" "The ghost, you saw it didn't you?" I wanted him to say no, that he had been daydreaming or something...instead he said "It’s weird, I was waiting for you and a man walked out wearing a red flannel shirt, he walked right past me and disappeared into the corner over there." I got really nervous and asked him to spend the night. Later that night when we came home and went to sleep we had all the lights off and I felt a panic come over me, I couldn't wake up, I was stuck in darkness and it felt like an overwhelming sadness came over me, but not my sadness, someone else's. Whatever was there begged me to stay in the darkness. I struggled to breathe and I eventually woke up screaming. I grabbed my boyfriend who was still lying perfectly still, but his eyes were open gazing off into the corner of the room. When I asked him what he was looking at, he simply replied "Hmm...that's funny?" Then closed his eyes and went to sleep. I didn't sleep until the sun came up. When I asked my boyfriend about what he said, he did not remember. I have since moved from that apartment and I always sleep with the light on and say my prayers. A friend of mine said that some spirits are possessive, I prayed for the one at that apartment on Waiola Street to be at rest and not follow me. It hasn't and I pray it is at peace now, but I will never forget its sadness. (By Bonnie ) Visitor at Waiola Street After a night of sitting around telling ghost stories, it was around 1 or 2 a.m. in Wahiawa. We all decided that it was time to head home and sleep. For some reason, I just had an uneasy feeling that night and didn't want to go home. One of my friends said I could sleep over at his place, so me and another of our friends headed to his house. One of my friends slept on his bed and the other two of us slept on the floor. The night passed uneventful, so I thought. The next morning my friend had asked if we heard the knocking at the window. The two of us shook our heads. Apparently sometime after we all fell asleep, someone knocked on the bedroom window. Three knocks, three times. Knock, knock, knock...pause...knock, knock, knock...pause...knock, knock, knock...My friend on the bed heard the faint knocking but was too tired to look out the window. He heard no footsteps or voices calling and fell back asleep. No big deal right? That's what I thought. But apparently when the devil comes-a-knocking to your house, that is how he knocks...three knocks, three times. (By Wahiawaboy) Early Morning Caller This happened to me about five years ago, when a friend of mine was holding a party which was held in Manoa. I didn't know Manoa that well (which I still don't) so I didn't really know where his house was, and I was driving around for five minutes looking for his house, so I guess you could say I was "lost". I was on the other side of the valley pretty close to paradise park. Then I got into this one very dim lighted area of Manoa neighborhood. So as I was driving along this one-way road in this dim neighborhood looking to get back on the main road (University Ave). I saw a little girl who looked between the ages of ten or thirteen dressed in a bright glowing knee length white dress with long black raven-colored flowing hair, moving very quickly across the street. But the thing that gave me the creeps the most was when I notice she had no legs! It was a clear glowing image of her and she was about ten feet from my car so I could see her clearly glowing in this dim lighted neighborhood. So when she got to the other side of the road she just vanished into thin air. I had never seen anything like what I saw that night. I've heard stories about ghost children around Manoa area and weird things happening around the UH, and people said they've seen children playing. I use to live on the Westside and I would sometimes hear footsteps in my old house but never really seeing anything like a ghost like how I saw that night. (By Josh) Little Girl in Manoa I just experienced this about a week ago in Oct. '08. My computer sits in a small alcove at the top of the stairs. As I work on the computer, a small hallway runs perpendicular to the alcove on my left and the stairway is across the hallway. To my right, the alcove goes in just a short way then a wall with a window to the outside. It was around 11pm when I felt a "presence" near me. There was enough light emanating from my computer screen where I could see no one was on the stairs. If anyone were on the stairs, they would have to be coming up because there is a child gate at the top which was closed at the time. I got up from my chair, looked in the master bedroom to see my wife still asleep and then looked down the other end of the hallway to see both my kid's bedroom doors still closed. That's when I got some strong chicken skin, both arms and the back of my neck. But I wasn't too spooked out because instead of shutting down the computer and going to bed, I sat back down and continued whatever it was that I was doing. After several minutes had passed, the chicken skin was long gone. All of a sudden, I got a cold sensation starting from my left side. It was like an air conditioner was very slightly blowing. Soon, my whole body was cold. The sensation kinda passed away and I got up to look into the master bedroom. The a/c was off with only the ceiling fan on. I sat back down and didn't feel any draft. This time I shut down the computer and went to bed. (By Wahiawaboy) A Chilly Visitor A Kunia Grocery Store When I shop at a grocery in Kunia, I'd often feel someone following me around the store and watching me. Sometimes I'd be in an aisle alone and smell a spot of a woman's or man's cologne, or even a cold spot or breeze swoosh by. Not all the time, but once in a while they follow me to the car until I drive out. But all in all, it's never a spooky experience. It makes me feel like they're nice spirits keeping me company. Back in the day the whole area used to be a sugar cane field, and who knows what it used to be, even before then. (By Sam K.) Not long after she pushed it out, she heard a set of limping footsteps coming down the hallway. It stopped next to our door (as if it were reading the letter) and the limped back down the hallway towards the stairs. Another night, my sister and I were staying up late and decided to head to bed. We turned everything off and started up the stairs. When we reached the top, we heard voices, like a party, going on downstairs. My sister was curious. She snuck back down the stairs halfway and peeked around the wall quickly to see. The voices stopped immediately. She started back up the stairs again. When she reached the top, the voices started again. We RAN to our bedroom. My son was always playing with an unseen figure. Peek-a-boo over the back of the recliner one time when he was one-year-old. Then, when he was about 2-years-old, he started talking about a boy named Bobby. I made him his lunch one day and my son took it to the bottom of the stairs. He set his food down on the first step and called up the stairs "Bobby!" That was pretty creepy. Things always disappeared, our keys, the hammer which we finally found the day we were moving in an ice chest that had been stored in the back of the closet under the stairs most of the time that we lived there. Also, we all fought amongst one another daily during the 3 stay. I remember how much hate we all had towards one another, it hung in the air. Lots of many other things happened… things moving, clunking noises, footsteps, etc. When we moved, my mother made a point to tell the spirits that they couldn't go with us. They had to stay there. I wish I was older and knew how to help them find their way to the light. I hope they've reached it. I saw that there was another account of a house on this same street on your site and I'm curious to know if they lived in the same house as we did. I also DO remember finding out that those houses were built on the old flight line during the Pearl Harbor attack. It had been set up as a temporary morgue during that period. I hope we find out more about it. (By Amy) As a kid, we had a neighbor that was an older couple, the Lim's. They was really nice, especially the wife, Mrs. Lim, who we often had fun with. One day, she told us they've been hearing small kids in the back of their house, right outside their bedroom window really late at night. She knows it wasn't any of us, and when we asked if she looked outside the window, she said no. My feeling was because she knew just what they was, ghosts. She even looked kinda afraid. We thought her story was interesting and because she was always so nice to us, we took it upon ourselves to "investigate". With her permission, we went in the back of their house where there's dirt walkway or trail that ran alongside the entire back of the house with all their plants on the opposite side. We didn't expect to find anything, but as we were looking on the dirt path, we were surprised to find footprints of really small shoes imprinted on the dirt! We ran to go get Mrs. Lim to show her what we just found, and when we took her behind the house and showed her the small footprints in the dirt, she quickly got the water hose and washed away the footprints. It was kinda funny, but none of us let her see us laughing to ourselves. The strange thing is, ever since Mrs. Lim had hosed down the footprints, they haven't been hearing small children playing in the back of their house anymore. But maybe she was telling us the truth because that was the first and last time we ever found any small footsteps in the back of the house. (By C.
