The Black, Hairy Monster

When I was around 8 years old, I went into the living room in the middle of the night because I couldn’t sleep. When I entered the living room, I saw a black, hairy-looking beast with sharp teeth and red eyes looking at me through one of the living room windows. I was so scared and didn’t know what to do, when suddenly, this older woman dressed in a long white dress appeared and guided me to sit with her on the sofa. I felt grateful she was there, but still, was very scared and couldn’t keep still. The lady in white was very calm and didn’t appear bothered at all by the beast that was still looking at me through the window on the left from where we sat. She told me just sit down and don’t look. I thought maybe it was easy for her because the “monster” was looking at me, and not her. As scared as I was, I tried my best not to be scared, and especially, not looking at that beast growling and snarling with his red eyes glaring at me from outside the window. Soon after, (and don’t know how I was able to either), I fell asleep. Glad I never experienced that “monster” again and that the lady in white came to be with me when I needed someone! (By Mike)

A Husband's Wedding Anniversary

I’m writing this for my friend, TC, who can often see and hear ghosts. He said at home one night, there was a man spirit that followed him. The spirit didn’t come into his house or anything, but stayed outside, looking depressed, and TC could tell he was an earthbound spirit. So TC decided to ask the spirit if he was okay, being he looked so depressed. The spirit went on to say how he and his wife always did something special every time their wedding anniversary came around, and on their wedding anniversary, he was happily on his way home from work excited to surprise her with something, but never made it home because he got into a car accident and died. It happened years ago, and he’s been here since. Soon after telling TC what happened to him, he seemed to become released from that depression that anchored him here and was able to let go and move on to the other side. When I asked TC how come, he said some spirits like him just need to tell someone on this side what happened to them, and they’re able to move on. He said he doesn’t understand that either, just that sometimes it’s like that. (By Pualei)

At Work

Where I work, I often see spirits that are young, teenagers and early 20's type of age. When I'm servicing a customer I'd saw a man spirit standing next to the customer looking and smiling at me, another man spirit standing on the stairway also looking at me with a dead-look to his appearance, watching me as I'm walking around the job, or spirits walking around the place, but looking happy. I also hear them talking at times. Few times in the office, I'd hear a lady talking, a man whistling a tune, or hearing people talking, and it's obvious that I'm the only one in the office hearing these voices. I wondered why most of these spirits I've been (and still) experiencing on the job are "young", until one day a during a casual conversation about the job a longtime co-worker mentioned that the place where we work used to be a roller skating rink back in the 70's! My Grandma

When I was little, I used to hear about my paternal grandmother but I never met her. She passed away years before I was born. Although I never knew what she looked like, she was described as a woman with a square face and short wavy hair. Well one day, I was in the tub ready to take a bath. I was sitting there in the tub while it was being filled with water. Some of the water splashed on my eyelashes that caused round optical circles. As I looked at the circles, all of a sudden I saw silhouettes of people, slowly walking, single-file. Then from one row walking in one direction, there came a second row of the same type of silhouettes walking in the opposite direction. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, so I closed my eyes for little while, and when I re-opened my eyes, I saw the silhouette of my grandmother, from the shoulders, up. Although I couldn't see her face, I knew who she was, and she was looking right at me. That's when I wiped my eyes dry, took a quick bath and got out as fast as I could! (By Elena)

While our house was being treated for termites, we stayed at a hotel near the airport. It was around 2:00 a.m. and my daughter, who happen to be awake watching TV, clearly heard a voice coming from inside the room by the door. It was a voice of a little girl that told her, "I want my mommy!" What was even stranger is I dreamed that there was a little blond girl around 5 years old standing by the door to our room! I don't know what this experience was about, but one night a little ghost girl wearing a long white dress came and appeared in this long length mirror in my room. She looked like she was around 6 years of age. What was frightening is she looked like a corpse with that dead look on her face. She just stood there in the mirror's reflection, and though she looked scary, I felt sorry for her at the same time because I could feel her sadness and depression. Soon after , she slowly disappeared. I still don't understand why she came to me, why I saw her. But till this day it still makes me wonder what could've happened to her that made her be so sad and depressed when she's in spirit now and should be happy. (Cary)

The Sad Little Ghost Girl

My grandson and me was driving home to Nanakuli late one night around 11:30. When we were by Kahe Point, out of nowhere this young lady in a long white dress, white skin, and with long hair suddenly walked right in front our car, making us jump. We didn't feel any bump on the car or under the tires and one would expect. Startled, we pulled over and got out of the car anyway to look for "her" but there was nobody. No young lady in white. Nothing but darkness. Relieved but shaken, we got back in the car. Then my grandson said she must've been a ghost. When I asked why he thought that, he said "Everything happened so fast, but when she walked in front of the car, I could see right through her!" Hearing that gave me 'chicken skin' all over, after we both figured we must have just seen a ghost! (By Alex)

The Lady in White

One night around 8:00, I went downstairs to the garage to go pick up something to eat. When I got to the garage, I heard my car's automatic locks, for a total of three times. Because I have an enclosed garage, I never lock my car doors, so hearing it three times, meant, 'Lock, unlock, lock'. Sure enough when I got to the driver's side, my car door was locked. All the car doors were locked. With my car lock remote, I unlocked the doors to get in. I did feel like someone was sitting in the back seat, but thought maybe that strange incident had my imagination going or something, till I began backing out of the garage. As I reversed my car out of the garage, I looked in my rearview mirror and saw a man sitting in the middle of the back seat! When I started driving, I told him he needs to leave, and he did. What a relief. In a way I felt bad, thinking maybe he just wanted to go for a ride, and maybe 'unlocking' my car door for me, not knowing that I don't lock my car doors when in the garage. I'm also glad he did leave when I asked him to. Sometimes it makes me wonder what if he was a bad ghost and didn't leave, what would I do then? (By Sarah)

The Back Seat Passenger

I've lived in my house for the past 15 years in Kaneohe, and for the past few years, I've been experiencing strange experiences. When I'm in the house, I would see a little dark shadow that would hide when I'd look after seeing it on the corner of my eye. Sometimes I'd hear somebody walking around the house when nobody else but me is home. And one afternoon, I was on the ladder changing a light bulb, and saw a shadowy figure holding the ladder steady for me! It seems like a good spirit that hasn't scared me or harmed me in any way, so I'm just letting that spirit be. After these years with the spirit that appears to be a male spirit, it kinda grows on you, where it's kinda nice to have em around. (By Jack L.)

When I was a young man, I was walking home in Waipahu. There were bushes on the side of the dirt road I was walking on. Suddenly, I heard a noise and turned to see a Chinese man coming out of the bushes with a 6-pack of beer under his arm. He smiled at me, said, "Hi," and went on his way, and so did I! (By Ben)

My grandparents used to live in Waipahu for a super long time. Before they broke the house down to make way for development, I remember they had a good-size tangerine tree in the front of the house. One day I asked grandma what happened to the tangerine tree. She said they chopped it down. I asked howcome, and she said my uncle was coming home late one night, and as he drove up to the house, he saw the devil standing under the tree, so they chopped it down. (By Keo)

Waialua's Snake-Road Hitchiker

At the "snake-road" or "S-turn" there's been a middle-aged lady hitchhiker that catches a ride from unsuspecting people. She'd catch a ride and talk story with you, then get quiet for a while. That's when you'd turn to look at her, why she's so quiet, and you see that she disappeared. She doesn't look like a ghost because people actually picks her up. I mean would you pick up a person that looks like a ghost?. (By T.C.)

Before my friend moved into his place, I felt like there was a spirit that occupied his home. I joked with him about it, just to tease, but turned out to be true. A friend of his saw a shadow walking around in the house, and doors would open and close by itself, as if someone went in and out the room.Speaking of doors, one day I went to visit, and felt weird, like someone was standing at the front door. As I walked toward the front door, when I got close, the door gracefully swing open to let me in. There was no breeze, nothing. I just tell my friend that at least it's a good spirit! (By Anthony)

The Road to Mililani Graveyard

My friends and I was driving near the overpass on that road (I forget the name of that street), on our way to Mililani graveyard one night. As we were driving, we saw a man all dressed in white walking alongside the road. We slowed the car down, and that man in white turned to look at us, and started coming toward our car. He had a scary, dead-look on his face. As he neared our car, we hit the gas and sped away, not even going to the graveyard after that experience and just took the on-ramp to get back on the freeway to Mililani town. After that scary and unexpected experience, none of us was in the mood to see what the graveyard would hold for us! (By Justin)

The Man in the Black Suit

I lived in Mililani and used to leave for work 4:30 in the morning. One morning driving on the freeway passing Waipio Gentry's Industrial area, on the left side of the freeway going in the opposite direction are hills, and standing on the hill I saw an older man dressed in a black suit with an old-fashioned tie and hat, looking at the cars passing by! Being nothing was ever built on those hills next to the freeway, made me wonder why he was there. (By P.K.)
